The geodesic dome project was conducted by 8 team member and the requirements are set as below :

  • zero cost

  • carrayable by 5 people

  • accomodate of 5

  • assembled in 30 minutes

  • life span = 1 month

  • recyclable

  • transforming identity

  • assembly on 1st of October

  • 11.00am - 11.45am

To make a dome , we must consider about the distance from the centre to the outside is equal to one. Therefore, we decided to use bamboo sticks to make 6 pentagon shape with equal size and length.

Throughout this project, we had suggested by using recyclable materials so we used several bamboo sticks, tyre stripes, akar-akar kayu, cellophone tape, paper boxes, recyclable plastic bags and batik clothes.

At first, each of the group member are separated to do different things which is half of us go to find some unwanted plastic bag and the rest go to find bamboo sticks and 'akar-akar kayu' to replace the string so that it can be tie up the dome firmly and strongly. After we gathered all the materials we needed, we start to make out our geodesic dome. Boys are responsible to cut the bamboo sticks with saw whereas girls are help to stick all the paper plastic bag to make the cover of the dome to prevent water goes in. After a few days, we are managed to finish our dome work. Then, we double checked again so that it can withstand the weather test.

Time passes like just a wink, today is 1st of October, all of us brought our pentagons to the Convo Ground. We saw lotz of different design domes with different materials used there. All of the hbp students are so creative !!! XD After the briefing by Dr. Hafizal, we are given 30 minutes to build the dome. During the progress, we cooperate with each others. Some of us cutting the tyre stripes and then tie up the joint between two bamboo sticks;  some of us help to hold the structures and also used the batik clothes to cover the bottom of dome so that it will not let the water goes in easily.

After 30 minutes, each of group are presented their dome respectively to gone through the weather test and also the earthquake test . Luckily our dome are managed to survive during the both test without the extra 'disturbance' of other group members.
